A Director Identification Number (DIN) is a unique identification number allotted by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) to individuals intending to be a director of a company or an existing director. To ensure the database of directors remains current and compliant, the MCA mandates regular filing of KYC details. When a director fails to complete the annual e-form DIR-3 KYC, their DIN is marked as 'Deactivated' due to non-filing. DIN Reactivation is the essential process to restore the active status of such a DIN, allowing the individual to continue serving as a director or to be appointed to a new directorship.
Why is DIN Reactivation Necessary?
An inactive DIN can lead to several complications, including:
The Process of DIN Reactivation:
Reactivating a 'Deactivated' DIN primarily involves filing the overdue KYC details. Here's a detailed breakdown of the process:

Understanding and complying with the regulatory requirements surrounding Director Identification Numbers (DINs) is crucial for every director. The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) mandates the filing of Form DIR-3 KYC, a critical e-form designed to update and verify the details of individuals holding a DIN.
This mandatory annual filing requirement, governed by the Companies (Appointment and Qualification of Directors) Rules, 2014, specifically applies to directors who were allotted a DIN on or before March 31st, 2018, and whose DIN status is currently 'approved'. The primary objective is to ensure the accuracy and currency of director information in the MCA database, enhancing corporate governance and transparency.

Understanding and adhering to the deadlines for filing Form DIR-3 KYC is crucial for all company directors. This annual compliance requirement ensures the updation and verification of director identification numbers (DINs), preventing their deactivation.
Typically, the due date for filing Form DIR-3 KYC is September 30th of each financial year. However, it's important to note that this deadline is often subject to extensions granted by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) based on various considerations.
Latest Update for Financial Year 2024-25:
For the Financial Year 2024–25, the deadline for filing Form DIR-3 KYC without incurring a late fee has been extended. Directors now have until October 31, 2025, to complete their filing. This is an extension from the previously announced due date of October 15, 2025. It is imperative to complete the filing within this extended period to avoid penalties.
Late Filing Fee:
Please be aware that if Form DIR-3 KYC is filed after the extended due date of October 31, 2025, a late filing fee of ₹500 will be applicable. Korrectax advises all directors to take advantage of this extension and ensure timely compliance to maintain their DINs in an 'Active' status and avoid any unnecessary costs or complications related to DIN Reactivation.
When a Director Identification Number (DIN) is marked as 'Deactivated due to Non-filing of DIR-3 KYC' by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), it means the director has failed to submit their e-Form DIR-3 KYC by the stipulated deadline (September 30th). Reactivating a deactivated DIN is crucial for maintaining compliance and ensuring the director can continue their role effectively.
To reactivate a deactivated DIN, every affected Director Identification Number holder must undertake the following steps:
Once the DIR-3 KYC form is successfully submitted along with the applicable fee, it undergoes a Straight Through Processing (STP) for approval. Upon successful approval, the MCA system automatically reactivates the deactivated DIN. This ensures that all directors maintain up-to-date KYC information, adhering strictly to regulatory requirements and restoring their active status.
At Korrectax, we guide you through the seamless DIN reactivation process, ensuring all compliances are met efficiently.
To ensure a smooth and successful DIN reactivation process through DIR-3 KYC, it's crucial to have all the necessary documentation and personal details readily available. Korrectax guides you through each requirement to streamline your submission.
